Five Steps to Learn a New Exercise Regimen
The holidays are a great time – we spend time with our family and have lots of food. But we feel hopeless when trying to learn a new exercise. It is common but there are ways to ensure that you can learn a new exercise whether it is doing squats or lifting weights.
Here are some advices from fitness experts:
1. Keep attainable goals
It is necessary to keep exercise goals that are measurable and attainable. For instance, if you are starting with a new exercise regimen, set goals like to be able to do 100 sit-ups after six months.
Don’t set goals that are general; rather set goals which are specific. Research shows that you should set goals that have a 50 per cent achievable rate of success.
2. Workout at your own pace
Don’t look at other people’s goals.
The only person who should be able to achieve your goal is YOU. So make it doable for yourself. Because if you overexert yourself, you can get discouraged after a small failure.
3. Try hiring a personal trainer
A competent trainer can be the best holiday gift you can give yourself. Your trainer is the person who will motivate you, train you, and get you started on an exercise regimen.
But find a trainer who is certified and suits your individual needs.
4. Understand the exercise
You should get a clear grasp of the exercise you will be doing. You should know about the individual aspects including the benefits of the exercise. Not only will it help you do the exercise correctly, it will help you preserve your energy. In addition, you will reduce the chances of getting an injury.
Avoid mimicking the movements of people you see at the gym. There is a good chance you will be missing on important steps. So ask someone to walk you through the exercise.
5. Practice
This last step goes without saying.
Efforts you put in will be awarded even if you don’t get them correctly in the first go. But that does not mean that you have do them all day long. Use a particular time of the day to practice; while some people like to practice in the morning others find evening-time suitable to them.
