Boosting Your Energy Levels When You Have Hypothyroidism

Tiredness and fatigue are two common symptoms of hypothyroidism. Endocrinologists offer hormone replacement medication targeting the TSH levels in the body. In addition, there are ways to ensure that you stay energized.

1. Take your Thyroid Hormone Replacement Medication Continuously
The replacement medication helps keep the thyroid functioning at the right level. While this may take up to six months, taking the medication continuously is necessary to adjust the other symptoms of an underactive thyroid. On an empty stomach, take the medication each morning. In some cases, where the medication does not help alleviate fatigue, it may be time to adjust the medication taking the T3 and T4 levels into consideration.

2. Watching What You Eat
There is no hypothyroidism diet. However, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help maintain good energy levels in the body. Make sure that you cut back on sugars, which can increase the fatigue feeling. You can also add dietary supplements, if necessary. Instead of taking large meals, switch them with smaller and frequent meals.

3. Limit the Intake of Caffeine, Tobacco and Alcohol
Trying to boost your energy with caffeinated drinks can actually get your night-time routine in a bad shape. Caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol affect the restorative quality of the sleep, thereby increasing the fatigue that you experience with an underactive thyroid.

4. Exercising to Boost Energy
Physical activity during the day can improve energy levels by increasing your metabolism and providing a good quality sleep at night. An exercise regimen of half-an-hour at least five days in a week is sufficient to boost your energy level.

5. Developing a Sleep Plan
Developing a good sleeping plan cannot be underestimated when you have hypothyroidism. Daytime fatigue is also an indication that the quality of sleep i.e. deep sleep is not available to you. When sleeping, remove all distractions including gadgets, clocks, and light. Establish a regular time when you preparing for the night and are in bed. This will help in reclaiming your energy in the daytime.
